Chapter 7 Vocab Flashcards
Ratio
comparison of two quantities by division
Extended Ratio
compares three or more numbers
Proportion
equation that states that two ratios are equal
Extremes
the first and last numbers in a proportion
Means
the middle two numbers
Cross Product property
the product of the extremes equals the product of the means
Similar Figures
have the same shape but not necessarily the same size
Similar polygons
two polygons if corresponding angles are congruent and if the lengths of corresponding sides are proportional
Extended Proportions
where three or more rates are equal
Scale Factor
ratio of corresponding linear measurements of two similar figures
Scale Drawing
all lengths are proportional to their corresponding actual length
Scale
ratio that compares each length in the scale drawing to the actual length
Indirect Measurement
to find lengths that are difficult to measure directly
Geometric Mean
for any two positive numbers ‘a’ and ‘b’, the geometric mean is the positive number ‘x’ such that (a/b)=(x/b)
Sided Splitter Theorem
If a line is parallel to one side of the triangle and intersects the other two sides, then it divides those sides proportionally
