Chapter 6 Vocab (6.5-6.9) Flashcards
Trapezoid
quadrilateral with exactly one pair of opposite sides
Base
Parallel sides of a trapezoid
Leg
non-parallel sides of a trapezoid
Base angle
the two angles that share a base of a trapezoid
Isosceles trapezoid
trapezoid with legs that are congruent
Midsegment of a trapezoid
segment that joins the midpoint of its legs
Kite
quadrilateral with two pairs of consecutive sides congruent and no opposite sides congruent
Trapezoid Midsegment Theorem
If a quadrilateral in a trapezoid then the midsegment has to be parallel to the bases, and the length of the midsegment is half the sum of the length of the base.
Distance Formula
d = \sqrt{(x_2 - x_1)^2 + (y_2-y_1)^2}
Midpoint Formula
((x1 + x2)/2, (y1 + y2)/2)
Slope
y2-y1/x2-x1
Coordinate proof
using coordinate geometry and algebra to prove theorems
