Chapter 7 Solutions Flashcards
Colloid
Collide is a mixture consisting of tiny particles that are intermediate in size between those solutions
Emulsion
Is any mixture of two or more Immiscible liquids in other wise one liquid is dispersed in the other
Solution
Is a homogeneous mixture of two or more substances uniformly dispersed throughout a single phrase
Solute
In a solution the substance that dissolves in the solvent
Solvent
In a solution the substance in which the solute dissolves
Alloy
A solid or liquid mixture of two or more metals
Heterogeneous mixture
The amount of substances in different samples
Decanting
The process of pouring a lighter liquid off a heavier liquid
Immiscible
Two liquids that separate
Tyndall effects
The particles are large enough to scatter light that passes through collide
Polar compounds
A molecule that has an uneven distribution of electrons
Hydrogen bonding
The intermolecular force occurring when a hydrogen atom that is bonding.
Nonpolar compound
A compound whose electrons are equally distributed among its atoms
Solubility
The maximum amount of a solute that will dissolve in a given quantity of solvent
Concentration
The amount of a particular substances in a given quantity of a mixture
Unsaturated solution
A solution that contains less solute than a saturate solution
Saturated solution
A solution that cannot dissolve any more solute
Supersaturated solution
A solution that holds more dissolved solute than is required to each equilibrium at a given temperature
Molarity
An expression of the concentration of a solution in moles of dissolved solute per liter of solution
Insoluble
Substances are insoluble in water meaning they do not dissolve
Solute
That it dissolves easily in water
Dilute
A solution that contains only a small amount of solute
What is suspension
Is a mixture in which particles of a materials are more or less evenly dispersed throughout liquid or gas
