How does the motivation-hygiene theory work?
It breaks the motivational process into two parts:hygiene factors and motivation factors. Hygiene factors are conditions that are external to the individual, such as pay and work conditions. Motivation factors are the individuals internally determined motivators, such as the desire for recognition, achievement, responsibility, and advancement.

According to expectancy theory, the fire officer must address three consideration to motivate the individual, they are?
- the employees belief that his or her effort will achieve a goal
