high behavioral standards, strict punishments of misconduct, little communication

sets limits but listens, flexible

high nurturance and communication, little discipling, guidance or control of misconduct

Rejecting-Neglecting
indifference, unaware of what’s happening in child’s life

overzealous spanking or battering that leads to harm/death
neglect
not providing enough food, child abandonment, not enrolling a child in school, avoiding medical care

continually shaming or serious acts such as terrorizing or exploiting children

rape, incest, fondling
mandated reporter
anyone who suspects child maltreatment is occurring, in Texas that’s anyone over age 18 (but especially those in helping professions)
risk factors for child maltreatment
- parents personalities (has a mental illness, aggressive)
- life stress and social isolation (young, poor, uneducated)
- children’s vulnerabilities (emotionally fragile, sick often, cries a lot, premature, medical conditions)
intelligence test
designed to predict a person’s general academic potential or ability to master school-related tasks
