Spastic CP
Hypertonicity- jerky, abrupt, rigid, slow movements
Arms and legs rotated inward
Usually both sides
Heels of feet pulled up
One or both arms raised with wrist flexed
Head drawn back and tilted
Mouth open
Cerebral palsy
Can be prenatal or congenital.
Abnormal movements and postures
Non progressive
Affects respiration, phonation, resonance, and articulation
Ataxic CP
Impaired ability to coordinate movements and maintain balance
Legs spread wide
Leg and arm movements are clumsy awkward and uncoordinated
Muscles are usually hypotonic and weak
Injury to cerebellum
Athetoid CP
Slow, writhing, worm like movements and involuntary movements of the extremities Feet and knees drawn inward Arms flexed, fingers extended back Head drawn back and tilted Open mouth Movements are exaggerated
Autism

Fragile x syndrome
Fragile site on the long arm of the X chromosome
- typically in males, big jaw, large head, submucous cleft, large long deformed pinna.
- language delay, add/adhd, autistic like behaviors, problems with sensation, emotion. Behavior
Down syndrome
Cause is 1 extra chromosome (47 vs 46)
- shortened oral and pharyngeal structures. Lack of muscle tone. Flat facial profile. Intellectual disability, large tongue.
Prader-Willi syndrome
Absence of long arm of the paternal chromosome 15
- craniofacial anomalies. Low muscle tone. Small hands. Intellectual disabilities
- abnormal resonance. Language delay.
Fetal alcohol syndrome
Chronic alcoholic mothers
-speech. Language voice and fluency problems
Cri-du-chat syndrome
Deletion on chromosome 5
-high pitched voices , articulation difficulties , limited language skills. Hearing loss
Tourette’s syndrome
No specific genetic abnormality identified.
- more common in males. Tics.
- impulsive. Anxious. Aggressive. Obsessive compulsive.
