Executives
Are government chief officers who make policies agendas, decisions, and implementing polices.
Legislators
A group of representatives’ who come together to approve laws that have been debated, amended, or proposed.
Separation of Powers
The individual authority held by government branches to keep each other from power abuse.
Checks and balances
A specialized power assigned to separate branches of government to prevent them from abusing each other.
bicameral/unicameral
Legislative model consisted of two-house or one-house
Divided Government
A situation in a separation -of-powers system in which representative branches of government are controlled by different parties.
split-ticket voting
A voter can select different parties in the same election.
Fusion of Powers
An organized parliamentary government in which the executive depends solely on the support of a legislative majority.
Coalition government
A government in a parliamentary system in which the prime minister and cabinet depend on the support of more than one party in the legislature to form a majority.
Vote of no confidence
In a parliamentary system, a vote by legislative majority can withdraw its support from the executive.
dissolution
If a parliamentary executive decides to deliberately resign, all legislators are required to resign as well, and a new election would take place.
