basically collect data and THEN form your theory based on the data collected

what is Phenomenology theory?
study of lived experienceh
how is data collected in qualitative research?
observation and field notes:
1) participant observation
2) field notes - records of high detailed stuff that can be remembered by observations
3) analytic notes
what are the 4 types of interviews?
interviews and focus groups
1) unstructured interviews - informants have full range freedom to describe their experiences, thoughts and feelings
2) semistructured - flexible questioning that allows informants to answer their own way
3) structured - question asked is not flexible but informant can answer how they want
4) focus groups - generates data from a designated topic through discussion and interaction
what is narrative vs content analysis?
narative - interprets stories about life experiences
content - breaking down by comparing, coding, contrasting, categorizing etc to help refine it into a description or interpratation
what are 4 sampling strategies?
1) purposeful sampling - intentional selection of ppl based on the needs of the study
2) theoretical sampling - sampling used in GROUNDED THEORY to build theory
3) nominated/snowball sampling - recruits participants with the help of informations already enrolled in the study
4) volunteer/convenience sampling - obtains participants by solicitation or advertising for volunteers who meet the criteria
what are the 4 criteria of trustworthiness to appraise qualitative studies?
1) credibility
2) transerability
3) dependability
4) confrimability
