Chapter 7 Flashcards
Experiment
: method used to prove or disprove the validity or hypothesis
what does an experiment help?
- Helps understand feasibility and viability of venture
- Starts with a hypothesis
hypothesis
○ An assumption that is tested through research and experimentation
5 characteristics of a good experiment
- Structured and follow a template
2. Focused and don’t try tot test too many things at the same time
3. Are believable so you can trust what you learn
4. They are flexible so you can make changes
5. They are compact so you can learn quickly
types of experiments (10)
- Interview
○ Fast inexpensive wat to get insights on ideas- Paper testing
○ Simple way to outline vision and spot mistakes before process - Advertising
○ Spreading word of your business using brochures or social media directed to reveal target audiences - Button to nowhere
○ Users click feature and nothing happens
○ Showing you people will click on it - Landing page
○ On website have a click here for more information button - Task completion
○ Watching someone use your product to see what works and what doesn’t - Prototyping
○ Model of what it will look like - pre-selling
○ Booking orders before it has been developed - Concierge and Wizard of oz
○ Customer interface is the product but the tech is going on behind the scences
○ Customers think they are using it but it is being provided manually behind the scenes - Live product and business
- Paper testing
Prototype
- Basic models or sketches that inform others and communicate what our ideas look like, behave like, and work like before the real service is launched
Types of prototypes
- MVP (minimum viable product)
○ “ version of a new product that allows a team to collect the max amount of validated learning about the customer with the least effort- Rapid prototypes
○ Quickly created models used to visulize a product or service
○ Made out of crude paper models - Mock-up prototype
○ 2D or 3D model that look like the finished product but lacks the functionality - High fidelity prototype
○ More sophisticated version of mock-up
○ Users can really interact with it - Lego prototypes
- Role-playing
○ Helps you to step in the shoes of your customer
○ Exposes experience of product - Wizard of oz prototypes
○ Faked function that someone is doing behind the scenes - User driven prototypes
○ Helps you understand what they are thinking - Pilots and prototypes
○ Not the same thing prototype is created before plots
○ Pilot is a small scale study used to assess the feasibility of product or service - Storyboards
○ Easy form of prototyping that gives high level of view and thoughts and ideas
○ Sketches and such
○ Gets main message across very quickly
§ State the problem
§ Show the solution
§ Show the benefit - Back of a napkin
Sketches on a page
- Rapid prototypes
The scientific process
- Ask questions
- Form a hypothesis
- Conduct research
- Test the hypothesis
- Analyze the results
- communicate the results
5 types of value
1) Value in use
a) Do they enjoy the product
2) Value in exchange
a) Is it offered at a competitive price
3) Value distribution
a) Availability and access
4) Value in finance
a) Financial health of org
5) Value in fitness
a) Process of gathering resources and innovating
experimental template
- What is the hypothesis
- What is the pass fail metric
- Who are the participants in this experiment
- How many participants are needed
- How are you going to ger participants
- How will the experiment be run
- How long is the experiment
How stay curious
- Connect with other curious people
- Be curiosity ambassador
- Focus on learning
Broaden your network
how do you get feedback on prototypes
- Involves
○ Use of some type of prototype
○ Asking user their opinion of the product or service
○ Determining whether there is value for the user in the use of the product or service
○ Identifying ways to make the product better
Determining whether you are targeting the correct customers
peel the onion
ask question then ask why
