Corticosteroids
- hydrocortisone

• MOA: Reduces inflammation
• Use: Inflammatory dermatologic conditions
• AE: Stinging at site, thinning of skin (face/genitals) do not recommend using for more than 3-5 days on face or genitals
• Do not cover with tight bandages or occlusive dressings unless instructed to do so (accelerates the rate of absorption)
Retinoids
- isotretinoin (Accutane)

MOA: Suppress sebum production, inhibit comedone formation and inflammation
Use: Nodular acne
AE: Dermatologic effects, GI effects, musculoskeletal effects, metabolic effects, psychiatric effects, etc
BBW: Pregnancy category X (must register with iPLEDGE program); will cause fetal anomalies, must have a license to prescribe this med, must be within 2 weeks of a negative pregnancy test, must have contraception contract/must either be on contraception or not having intercourse
Sunscreen
Used for UV light protection (use at least 30 SPF or higher)
Emollients
Itchy or dry skin
Keratolytics
Treat keratinizing cells (anti-aging)
Antiseptics
Used to treat infections, will inhibit bacterial growth
Benzoyl peroxide
Used to treat acne
