- protects vital organs
- act as levers when muscles contract to move body
- stores mineral salts calcium &
phosphates - produces blood cells in red bone marrow

A
it consists of a diaphysis (long middle skinny part), 2 epiphyses (the ends) and the metaphysis which is between the diaphysis and epiphysis (contains the epiphyseal plate, in a growing bone).
