What do clinicians know about dissociative amnesia?
- they do not know how common it is
- but many cases seem to begin during times of serious threat to health and safety
Define Dissociative Fugue
People with dissociative fugue not only
forget their personal identities and details
of their past, but also flee to an entirely
different location
What are the differences between brief and severe Dissociative Fugue?
Brief: hours, days, ends suddenly
Severe: travel far from home, establish new name, relationships, line of work, personality characteristics
What do somatoform and dissociative disorders have in common?
- both may appear in response to severe stress
- traditionally viewed as form of escape from stress
- a number of individuals suffer from both a somatoform and dissociative disorder
