distaste or reluctance to care for the individual

It would be a positive touch that reassures the patient that you are both capable and caring
What are some reasons why people touch each other?
To provide reassurance, support, or encouragement
To imply domination, anger, or frustration
To form a positive connection, as in a handshake or shoulder pat

Why is appearance an important form of nonverbal communication?
Because appearance helps patients and colleagues form a first impression about us. Not only does our attire matter, also how clean we keep our working area.
How would some cultures view touch, as opposed to how Americans may view touch?
Some cultures might view it as an invasion of personal space and privacy whereas Americans could view it as reassuring.
In some cultures and religion touch by a stranger or a member of the opposite sex is unacceptable or strongly frowned upon.
