France’s assistance to the American colonists that was significant in helping them win the war.
Treaty of Paris 1783
Negotiated between the United States and Great Britain ending the revolutionary war and recognized American independence.

When representatives are elected to represent their people in government.
Thoughts on Government
Written by John Adams in 1776 in response to a resolution where he outlined the three branch government that we use today.
Abigail Adams
The wife of John Adams who wrote him letter and influenced his thoughts.
The Articles of Confederation
the first constitution of the United States, on November 15, 1777. However, ratification of the Articles of Confederation by all thirteen states did not occur until March 1, 1781.
Northwest Ordinance
1787; passed to regulate the northwest territory which eventually was divided into several states of the mid west

An uprising led by a former militia officer Daniel shays, protesting the foreclosures of farms for debt

Virginia Plan
A proposal by Virginia delegates for a bicameral legislative branch that suggested that the number of representatives would be proportional to the state population.
New Jersey Plan
Suggested that representatives where equal for each state no matter the size.
The Great Comprimise
An agreement that large and small states reached during the Constitutional Convention of 1787 that had equal representation in the Senate and proportional representation in the House of Representatives.
