Chapter 6 Learning Flashcards
Learning
In psychology, learning is about how the predictability of events can change behavior.
Stimuli
Any factor in the environment that elicits a response is a stimulus.
Non-Associative Learning
…occurs when repeated encounters with a stimulus produce a lasting change in behavior.
Classical/Pavlovian Conditioning
The unconditioned stimulus produces a response (UR). When a neutral stimulus produces the same response (CR), it is the CS.
Operant conditioning
…involves learning an association between a response and a stimulus that predictably follows it.
Consequences in Operant Conditioning
Reinforcement means that something pleasant is happening. Punishment means that something unpleasant is happening. The stimulus either appears (positive) or is removed (negative).
