Q

Describe the Middle Cerebral Arteries

A

Located within the lateral fissure

12
Q

Describe the anterior cerebral arteries (where they lie, what they do).

A

Course along and supply the anterior and medial surface of the cerebral hemispheres

They branch from the internal charotid arteries.

Q

Describe the posterior cerebral artery (PCA)

A

course along the supero-lateral margin of the midbrain

Supply midbrain, medial portions of the temporal lobe and the occipital lobe.

14
Q

What do cerebral veins do and where do they empy?

A

Collect blood from the capillaries and drain into a series of veins called the superficial and deep cerebral vein. These then drain into the dural venous sinuses.

16
Q

Where do superficial veins drain into?

A

The dural venous sinuses; paticularly the superior sagittal sinus

17
Q

What are thhe deep cerebral veins?

A

1) Internal Cerebral Vein
2) Great Cerebral Vein (of Galen)

18
Q

What does the internal cerebral vein drain?

A

Drains the thalamus and other deeper cortical structures

19
Q

Where does the Great Cerebral Vein of Galen drain into?

A

Drains into the straight sinus

20
Q

Where does the Great Cerebral Vein (of Galen) lie?

A

Inferior to the caudal portion of the corpus callosum and superior to the cerebellum on the midline

21
Q

What is the falx cerebri?

A

Sheet of dura that separates the two hemispheres of the brain

22
Q

What is the tentorium cerebelli?

A

Sheet of dura that separates the occipital lobes from the cerebellar lobes.

23
Q

Identify the ventricular system and label its parts

24
Q

What is non-communicating hydrocephalus?

A

Results from the blockage of portions of the ventricular system

25
Q

What are cisterns?

A

Locations in the CNS where CSF pools in the subarachnoid spaces.

26
Q

What are the 5 cisterns?

A

1) Cisterna Magna
2) Medullary Cistern
3) Pontine Cistern
4) Interpenduncular Cistern
5) Posterior (pineal) Cistern

27
Q

On this sheep MRI, identify the labeled cisterns.

28
Q

Be able to identify the cisterns on this Human MRI
