Chapter 6 en 7 Flashcards
What are three types of questions that give unreliable results?
Leading questions, double-barreled questions and negatively worded questions
Likert scale
Rating scale based on agree/disagree
What are three types of response sets?
Acquiescence (always say yes), fence-sitting (always in the middle), social desirability (not wanting to give an unpopular opinion.
Why can self-reporting be unreliable?
People are not always aware of the reasoning behind their choices.
What are three biases in observational studies?
Observer bias (observers see what they expect to see), observer effect (people change their behaviour’s) and reactivity (people change their behaviour when they are being watched).
What are three solutions to reactivity?
Blend in (make yourself less noticeable), wait it out (wait until the reactivity decreases) and measure the behaviour’s result.
What are two ways of measuring the population?
By drawing a sample or through census (testing every person/product in a population).
What are five biased samples?
Convenience sample, self-selection, purposive sampling, snowball sampling and quota sampling.
What is purposive sampling?
Only selecting people of a specific population.
What is quota sampling
Finding and filling the target number for every category.
Simple random sampling
Every member is assigned a number and random numbers are selected.
Cluster sampling
When people are already divided into certain groups.
Multistage sampling
Combination of simple random and multistage.
Stratified random sampling
When the proportion of demographic categories is the same in the population and sample
Oversampling
Overrepresenting one/more group and later correcting for this.
