Chapter 6- Draft Systems Flashcards
What is a draft?
The flow of air or gases of combustion caused by a difference in pressure between two points
What is a draft system?
A boiler system that regulates the flow of air to and from the burner
Do you need primary and secondary air for combustion
Yes for complete combustion
What is a damper?
Is a device used to create resistance in order to regulate the flow of air and gases of combustion in a boiler
What is a baffle?
A panel within a boiler that directs the gases of combustion to optimize contact with the boiler heating surface
What is Natural draft?
Draft produced by the natural action resulting from temperature differences between air and gases of combustion
What is breeching?
A duct used for the transport of gases of combustion from the boiler to the stack
What is mechanical draft?
Draft produced using a mechanical device such as a fan or blower
What is forced draft?
Mechanical draft from air pushed through the boiler with fans located in the front of the boiler furnace
What is induced draft?
Mechanical draft from air pulled through the boiler furnace with fans located in the breeching
What is a Combination forced and induced draft (balanced draft)?
Mechanical draft from fans located before and after the boiler
What is a Variable speed drive (VSD)?
A motor controller used to vary the frequency of the electrical signal supplied to an AC motor in order to control its rotational speed
What is a manometer?
A device that measures draft by comparing pressures at two locations with a U-tube or inclined tube gauge
What is a Diaphragm draft gauge?
A draft gauge that measures draft using a flexible diaphragm connected through a linkage to a pointer on a scale
What is draft control?
Draft controls are a part of combustion controls
