Chapter 6 Flashcards
Sling Angles
What is the tension on the sling equal to when a single sling in a vertical configuration supports a load?
The load weight
What happens when the sling angle decreases?
The tension on each sling increases substantially.
How can Sling Tension be calculated?
Sling Tension = (Sling Length/Sling Height) x (Weight/# of Slings)
When are Sling Angles most commonly encountered?
When Lifting Wire Reels or when installing Transformers
When installing a Overhead Transformer how should a sling be installed?
The sling must be as short as possible yo maximize the lift to allow room below the conductors for the derrick.
What does a skilled lineworker know?
That Sling Angles can create tension that far exceed the weight of the load being lifted.
