Chapter 6 Flashcards
What are the different manufacturing process types and what do they mean?
Project Manufacturing: a process designed for the production of a single unique product.
Jobbing Manufacturing: small scale production of items that are custom made for specific orders, often with low volume.
Batch Manufacturing: production in groups or “batches” where the same product is produced repeatedly but in limited quantities.
Mass Manufacturing: High-volume production of standardized products.
Continuous Manufacturing: Nonstop production of high volume, identical items.
What are the different service process types and what do they mean?
Professional Services: High-skill, personalized services that usually involve extensive interaction with the customer.
Service Shops: Less customised than professional services but still involve interaction and adaptation to customer needs.
Mass Services: Designed to handle a large volume with a standardised process.
What are the process performance metrics?
Throughput Rate = 1/Cycle Time
Work in Progress (WIP) = units waiting to be processed
Throughput Rate = Cycle Time x WIP
