Chapter 6 Flashcards
Cardiorespiratory Conditioning
an activity used to improve the body’s ability to process and deliver oxygen
Interval Training
Both aerobic and anaerobic processes, that can maximize the energy used by the body
How many stages of interval training are there?
3
Zone 1
Increase blood supply to tissue and is often used for beginners to improve the delivery of oxygen throughout the body and remove waste. Heart rate is 65-75% of the maximal heart rate
Zone 2
Increased heart rate of about 80-85% of the maximal heart rate and is near the point at which the body can no longer produce energy for the muscle
Zone 3
A true, high intensity workout over a short amount of time. Heart rate is 86-90% of the max.
Circuit Training
Combining aspects of both cardiovascular and strength training, it involves a series of resistance training exercises back to back with very little rest or recovery period.
Muscle strength
the maximum amount of weight any one muscle can endure without strain
Balance
the ability to maintain a certain position for a given amount of time without a change in movement
Coordination
the ability to use multiple areas of the muscles and joints at the same time while accurately performing motor functions
2 types of coordination
Intramuscular coordination and Inter-muscular coordination
Intramuscular coordination
the ability of the neuromuscular system to allow for an optimal level of motor function
Intermuscular coordination
The ability of the neuromuscular system to allow muscles to work together
Agility
the ability to rapidly change body position with speed and accuracy
Smart progression
The progression from a lower intensity level to a higher intensity level, longer duration, and/or increased frequency of exercise
Fat burning can only occur through extreme cardiovascular exercise. True or False?
False
What form of strength training leads to muscle hypertrophy?
Resistance training
A short duration of activity that precedes major exercise is:
a) Cool-down
b) Stretching
c) Warm-up
c) Warm-up
What are some physical benefits to improving flexibility?
Relieving joint stress, improving function and neuromuscular efficiency, and maintaining the normal functional length of all muscles
What is the first and most fundamental component of biomechanical function in sports performance?
Balance
Speed play only works with individuals who are at an optimal level of physical fitness. True or False?
False
