The story of Moses
The story of Moses begins in the Book of Exodus, the second book of the Bible. Moses’ life is dramatic, which is why his story has been retold in many ways over the centuries.
Moses leads his people to Freedom
Moses was chosen by God to lead the Israelites to the promised land of Canaan. This was a decisive moment in his life. Moses was putting himself outside the Egyptian world in which he was brought up.
The Ark of the Covenant
God instructed Moses to make a special container of acacia wood to house the tablets. This was known as the Ark of the Covenant. The Ark was often carried into battle at the head of the Jewish armies. King David brought the Ark to Jerusalem where it was eventually placed at the centre of the Temple by his son, King Solomon. The Ark of the Covenant was later lost.
