Preconventional Level

A

What is right and wrong is decided by consequence of action.

  • External authorities
  • Self-centred.
  • Own interests are most important.
  • “I will be good because I admire the person who will be impressed or because I fear or respect them.”

Postconventional Level

A

Doing good things because of care for others.

  • Matured to a level of knowing the importance of good deeds.
  • Self-disciplined.
  • Social contract of sacrificing some freedom for others.

Why is Post-conventional the only truly moral way?

A

As they do things for other people rather than for themselves, life is also valued in term of its impact on the community’s welfare. They also think more of society as a whole and they need to conform in order to avoid self-condemnation
