Neonate
Birth at 38 or more weeks gestation to 27 days
Infant/toddler

Neonate absorption
Intestinal surface area in neonates does not reach that old an adults until 20 weeks so the absorption rate is decreased.
Inadequate amount of bile salts and pancreatic enzymes
Infants and young children absorption
Skin is thinner and so is the BMI allowing for a higher rate of absorption and toxicity of drugs
Neonates distribution
75% water instead of 60%
Allowing for a less concentrated drug
Have a lower amt of receptors and protein binders causing more free drugs being retained
BBB allows drugs to move across fairly easily
Neonates excretion
30% of adults GFR. By 12 months It reaches adult levels

Liquids in small volumes
Children 2-5 years old form
Liquids, effervescent tablets dispersed in liquids, sprinkled on food
Children 6-11 years form
Solids
Adolescents drug form
Adult dosage, solids
