two types of flora
Resident and Transient
FIxed types and are regularly found in a given area
Resident flora
Are those that inhabit the skin and mucuous membrane temporarily
Transient flora
Major skin inhabitant, 90% of resident aerobic flora
Staphyloccocus Epidermidis
Most commonly found in the nose and perinuem
Staphylococcus aureus
accounts for 20-80% of micrococci in the skin
Micrococcus luteus
common in axilla, palms, and sebaceous glands
Diptheroids
Seen in most intertriginous areas such as toe webs and axilla
Enterobacter, klebsiella, escherichia coli, proteus spp
microflora are similar to that of the skin
Nail flora
