Writ of Habeas Corpus
Art. 1, sec. 9 - requiring a person be known of his charges in court.
Ex Post Facto Law
Punishes individuals for committing an act that was legal when it was committed (after the fact)
Lemon Test
1971 - three-part test created by the Supreme Court for examining the constitutionality of religious establishment issues.
Symbolic Speech
Symbols, signs, and other nonverbal methods of expression generally considered to be protected by the First Amendment.
Right to Privacy
The right to be left alone; a judicial he created principal encompassing a righty of individual actions protected by constitutional amendments, including first, third, fourth, ninth and 14th.
Fifth amendment
Imposes a number of restrictions on the federal government with respect to the rights of persons suspected of committing a crime.
Prevents the national government from denying life liberty or property without due process of law.
Civil Liberties
Legal and constitutional rights to protect citizens from government actions.
