Chapter 5 Cell Structure Flashcards
What are the three main parts of a cell
The main types of a cell is plasma membrane, cytoplasm, nucleus
Cytoplasm
The gel-like internal substance of cells that includes many organelles that provides support and movement
Cell plasma membrane
Outer boundary of cell
What are peroxisomes and are they harmful where can u find them in the human body
Small membranous sacs Containing enzymes that detoxify harmful substances that enter the cell
Often found liver and kidney cells
Ribosome
Many are attached to The RER and many lie free, thought out the cytoplasm
The ribosomes in the ER make proteins for export or to be embedded in the plasma membrane
Free ribosome make proteins for the cells domestic busy
Golgi Apparatus
Processes protein molecules from the ER
The processed proteins leave the final cisterns in a vesicles
Lysosomes
Digestive system
Proteasomes
Break down protein molecules one at a time by tagging each one with a chain of ubiquitin molecules
Peroxisomes
Containing enzymes that detoxify harmful substances that enter the cells
Mitochondria
Each mitochondrion has DNA molecule
Cytoskeleton
The cell’s internal supporting framework.
Made up of tiny flexible fibres and rigid, rodlike pieces
Provide support for the cell shape
Can move the cell or its parts
Detects Changes inside and outside the cell
Cell fibres
Support the ER, Mitochondria, and free ribosome
Cell fibres microfilaments
Serve as cellular muscles
Centrosomes
Non-membranous structure MTOC
Cell division
Cell Extensions
