Chapter 5 Flashcards
Centripetal acceleration
Acceleration towards the center of a circle
Escape velocity
The precise speed required to escape the gravitational pull of another body
Inertia
Property of an object that describes its resistance to change in motion.
Momentum
An objects mass multiplied by its velocity
Neap Tide
At first and third quarter moon, the sun and moon partially cancel each other out creating weaker tides.
Spring Tide
Low tides are unusually low and high tides are unusually high due to the sun and moon being aligned (new moon, full moon)
angular momentum
the momentum of a body associated with its rotation or revolution.
central force
a force acting towards central motion
circular speed
a body in a circular orbit moves at a constant speed
conic section
the four kind of trajectories for escape velocity. circle ellipse, parabola and hyperbola
hyperbola
shape of objects path when exceeding escape velocity
vector
possess both magnitude and direction
velocity
describe the speed and direction of which an object moves.
