The skull, vertebral column, ribs, and sternum
Bony Thorax
Bones of the thorax, including ribs, sternum, and thoracic vertebrae
Cartilaginous Joint
Bones united by cartilage, no joint cavity is present
Compact Bone
Is dense and looks smooth and homogeneous
Diaphysis
Elongated shaft of a long bone
Pelvic girdle
Incomplete bony basin formed by the two Coxal bones and the sacrum
Periosteum
Double-layered connective tissue membrane that covers and nourishes the bone
Red Marrow
In infants this area forms blood cells. Confined in spongy bone of flat bones
Short Bones
Generally cub-shaped and contain mostly spongy bone
Shoulder girdle
Composite of two bones, scapula and clavicle, that attach the upper limb to the axial skeleton; also called the pectoral girdle
Skull
Bony enclosure for the brain
