A climate that is moist all year with relatively mild winters and long, mild-to-hot summers.

A climate pattern of warm, dry summers and mild, rainy winters.
Mediterranian climate
A climate pattern in which summers are fairly hot and moist and winters become longer and colder the deeper into the interior of the continent one goes.
continental climate
A supranational organization that unites most of the countries of Europe.
European Union
The official (but not required) currency of the European Union.
euro
The 2016 decision by UK voters to leave the European Union; details of how this exit will proceed remain unresolved as of late 2019.
Brexit
During World War II, a massive execution by the Nazis of 6 million Jews and 5 million non-Jews.
Holocaust
A fortified border zone that separated western Europe from eastern Europe during the Cold War.
Iron Curtain
A period of conflict, tension, and competition between the United States and the Soviet Union that lasted from 1945 to 1991; the geopolitical rivalry that pitted the US and western Europe, who were espousing free market capitalism and democracy, against the USSR and its allies, who were promoting a centrally planned economy and a communist state.
Cold War
An agreement first signed in 1985and implemented in 1995 that allows for free movement across common borders in the European Union.
Schengen Agreement
Strong devotion and loyalty to the interests or culture of a particular country, nation, or cultural group.
nationalism
A military alliance of European and North American countries, created during the Cold War to counter the influence of the Soviet Union and to provide international security and cooperation.
North Atlantic Treaty Organization
Those who have fled from their homes because of war or violent social unrest or discrimination; people fleeing armed conflicts or persecution who are protected by international law (1951 _____ Convention)
refugees
Refugees who left their homes because of violent persecution and seek new legal status in an adopted country; refugees whose claims have not yet been evaluated - usually they are seeking protection from persecution on account of race, religion, nationality, or politics.
