Chapter 4 - Spreadsheet Concepts Flashcards
What is a variable?
A value entered into the cell to be used in a formula which can be changed leading to recalculation of figures
What are the two types of modelling in ICT?
Modelling of objects and mathematical modelling
What does object modelling allow you to do?
See the effect of external influences and rotate the model to see different feautures such as the electrical circuits or all the building frame
What is (what if?) Questions?
Calculation that allows values to be changed to see the effect
Name four features of mathematical modelling
- Variables
- Constants
- Named ranges
- Absolute and relative cell referencing
What is a formula?
A calculation represented in a spreadsheet
What are the rules?
A set of procedures that must be followed
What are functions?
A predefined complex formula
Give two advantages of using a spreadsheet to answer (what if) questions
It will automatically recalculate data
They cost and time is the lower than creating a physical model
What is it worksheet?
A single sheet of rows and columns in a spreadsheet
What is a workbook?
A collection of worksheets
What rows and columns?
Horizontal and vertical groups of cells used to organise data
What is a cell?
An individual datastore identified by unique row and Columns
What is a range?
A group of cells that can be given a name or identified by their cell references
What is absolute referencing?
When the cell reference in a formula remains the same when the formula is copied to any of the other cells
