Shape
An area distinguished from its surroundings by an outer edge or boundary.
Objective Shapes
Shapes that replicate something recognizable
Subjective Shapes
Shapes that have been imagined or contrived by the artist.
Biomorphic Shapes
Shapes that display edges of a rounded, curving, and sometimes undulating nature that suggests living organisms or natural forces.
Actual vs Implied shapes
Actual has a border.
Implied doesn’t.
2D vs 3D
2D = Height x Width 3D = Height x Width x Depth
Planar Shapes
Shapes that have width and height but no indication of thickness. (or planes)
Dominance
Simply changing the design of one shape can make it the dominant member among a group
Movement
The unifying and rhythmic effects created thorough eye movements are modified by the number and length of the pauses in the eye’s journey.

Deals with visual weight and negative area around it.
Proportion

the distillation of the image to the basic essentials of clarity of presentation
