-unattainable it’s an illusion created from feelings of inadequacy
-problem = idealized image displaces the realself as a frame of reference
Horney describes this as as the tyranny of the “should (..) I should be (…)“

Keeps a persona from “ real self “
It drives idealized image, it uses the idea of “I shoulds” and neurotic needs to explain.
For example, if eating disorder then they may have a neurotic need for approval?

1.COMPLIANT SOLUTION
- Compliant solution(moving towards others)=good,humble, and loving therefore why would someone want to hurt me

2.Aggressive SOLUTION
2.aggressive solution(moving against others) = mastery over others therefore no one can hurt me because I have power
RTOS : primary way of relating to others
3.DETATCHMENT
3.detachment (ask for nothing, try nothing, expect little in life) therefore if I try nothing then I won’t be disappointed
