Striving superiority(motivates the individual)
Striving to obtain power and superiority over ones own inferiority.
Can be positive or negative
Pos=with social interest in mind
Neg=lacks social interest and focuses on personal gain meanwhile ignoring the needs of others and society.
Feelings of inferiority
Start of life: ex, child dependant on parents
It’s our primary motivating force
Organ inferiority
Ex, everyone is born with physical weaknesses. If they’re overwhelmed or exaggerated then they have an inferiority complex
Life goals
Goals that prevent us from feeling impotent(unable to take action) in face of inferiority OR focuses our achievement
- psychologically UNHEALTHY person: disconnect between goals and reality
- psychology HEALTHY person will change and adjust when conditions warrant it.
Social interest
-A sense of connectedness to the human community
Style of life : ruling dominant
Dominate others
-low social interest but high activity
Style of life: getting leaning type
Expects to receive from others
-low social interest and low activity
Avoiding types
Avoids life problems
-very low social interest and low activity
Socially useful
Solves problems with social interest in mind
-High social interest and activity
Obstacles to growth
- organ inferiority : can lead to withdrawal of society later in life
- pampered or spoiled:never develop a strong sense of social interest because successfully manipulating the environment has always become easy to them
- neglect: never learns love or cooperation . Often become cold and hard as adults
These all distort their world views.
