A
- comes from within the person themselves
- have to be competent and self-determining to master tasks at hand
ex. love of the sport

what makes a task intrinsically motivating?
A
- sports with increased intensity
- no external reward = intrinsic motivation
- rec performers can experience flow just as well as elite athletes

flow
A
- when people believe they are totally involved or on autopilot
- complete immersion in an activity for its own sake
- ” in the zone “ –> everything melts away :)
- feeling of effortlessness

what does skill have to do with flow?
A
- when a skill is equal to a challenge, we experience flow because we have the equal skill set to match the challenge
- intrinsic motivation is at its highest
- if task ability is greater than skill, you could get anxious

A
- BALANCE between perceived skill and challenge
- perceive that they have the skills for physical or mental challenges
