what are the levels of Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs?
physiological: water, sleep, food
safety: security, shelter, protection
belongingness: love, friendship, acceptance by others
ego: prestige, status, accomplishment
self-actualization: self fulfillment, enriching experiences
what is drive theory?
it focuses on biological needs that produce unpleasant states of arousal
why does Drive Theory happen?
individuals are driven to reduce tension caused by the physiological arousal, and such tension has been proposed as a basic mechanism governing human behaviour
where does Drive Theory run into difficulty?
drive theory explains some aspects of motivation, however; it’s hard to explain some facets of human b behaviour that run counter to its predictions
what is Expectancy Theory?
it suggests that our behaviour is largely shaped by positive incentives(achieving derivable outcomes), rather than pushing it from within
what does Expectancy Theory indicate?
it indicates that individuals will choose one consumption experience over another because they expect once choice to have more positive consequences
