Chapter 3c Fichte Flashcards
What is Fichte’s central assumption?
That the self-determining activity of the subject is at the core of philosophy. Cannot be explained by anything external.
Why couldn’t humans be robots according to Fichte?
Ability to reflect shows this not the case . Doesn’t happen in nature. I that can reflect is an Absolute.
How is the “I”grasped in Fichte’s philosophy without turning it into an object?
Intellectual initiation: that thorough which I know something because I do it.
Why is much of GI’s subsequent development revolving around implications of intellectual intuition?
Kant sees it as arising with deity. Fichte thinks that coincidence in intell int. of act of thinking is what overcomes gap between mind and world.
Why does Jacobi criticise this?
Thinks it narcissistic and mind will just mirror itself. No room for independence of world of nature.
