Chapter 39 Flashcards
Four types of animal tissues
Connective, epithelial, muscle, nervous tissue.
This tissue is a continuous layer of cells. It covers all exposed surfaces, lines internal passageways, and forms glands. It function in protection, absorption, secretion, diffusion, or sensation.
Epithelial tissue
This type of epithelium lines the blood vessels, and form the air sacs of lungs.
Simple squamous
Epithelium found in lining of kidney tubules, and glad ducts
Simple cuboidal
Epithelium that lines the digestive tract and upper part of the respiratory tract
simple columnar
Epithelium found in the skin, mouth lining, and vaginal lining.
stratified squamous
Epithelium found in some respiratory passages and the duct of many glands.
Pseudostratified epithelium
Connective tissue is made of
cells, protein fibers, and a matrix
The most abundant fiber in the body is
collagen
Connective tissue function
Join body tissues and cushion and protect body structures
8 Types of connective tissue:
loose, dense, elastic, adipose, cartilage, bone, blood, and lymph.
11 mammalian organ systems:
Integumentary, respiratory, skeletal, urinary, muscular, nervous, digestive, endocrine, cardiovascular, reproductive, immune.
