Urethritis
Inflammation of urethra commonly caused by STI
Gonoccoal Urethritis is caused by
Neisseria gonorrhoeae
Non infectious Urethritis
Associated with ingestion of wood alcohol or turpentine
Symptoms of Urethritis
Urethral tingling, itching, burning sensation, frequent urinanation and urgency
-clear mucus like discharge
Diagnosis of Urethritis
Urine neucleic acid detection amplification test allows detection of gonorrhea nad chlamydia
Phimosis
Foreskin cannot be retracted
Paraphimosis
Foreskin is retracted but can’t be moved forward to cover gland
What would eliminate possibility of Phimosis and paraphimosis
Circumcision
Priapism
Uncommon prolonged penile erection that is usually painful
-not associated with sexual arousal or viagra
Priapism TX
Usually within hours to prevent erectilce dysfunction
-needle aspiration of blood from dorsal glands is effective
-medical emergency
Varicocele
Abnormal dilation of testicular veins within scrotum (described as a bag of worms)
-90% on left side due to structure of venous drainage
Hydrocele
Excessive fluid between layers of tunica vaginalis
-often resolves spontaneously in first year of life, more serious if lasts past first year
Spermatoceles
Benign cyst, a collection of fluid in epidydimsy
-cysts filled with mildly fluid due to involvement of sperm
-can cause significant pain
Cryptorchidism
Abnormalities where testes do not descent completely
-remain in abdomen or in Guiana canal
Cause of Cryptorchidism
Short spermatic cord, adhesions, narrow inguinal canal
