Chapter 3.1: Types of digestion Flashcards
What are the 2 types of digestion?
Mechanical and Chemical
What is Mechanical digestion?
Mechanical digestion involves physically breaking down food substances into smaller particles to more efficiently undergo chemical digestion.
What are some examples of Mechanical digestion?
Chewing: Grinding of food into smaller pieces by the teeth.
Churning: The process of mixing food with digestive juices in the stomach by muscular contractions.
What is Chemical digestion?
This is the process where complex molecules like proteins, fats, and carbohydrates are broken down into smaller pieces that your body can use.
Chemical Digestion=Chemical Change
Example of Chemical digestion?
Amylase: An enzyme that breaks down carbohydrates into simple sugars like glucose and fructose
