• It involved cellars filled with gunpowder, intended to blow up the building and everyone in them.

He is one of the most famous people involved in the gunpowder plot. His job was to set the barrels of gunpowder on fire but was cuaght before he could do so.

Why did the gunpowder plot happen?

• Guy Fawkes and the other conspirators were angry at the English government and the portestant King for the mistreatment of Roman Catholics.
• James I ordered all Catholic priests to leave England, upsetting the conspirators.
• They believed if they removed James I from the throne, the King of Spain would take over, treating the Catholics more fairly.
