Who was rosa parks and what did she do? What was she charged with?
Rosa parks was a black lady riding home after a long day of work, and when asked to give up her seat for a white man, she said no. She was charged with violating segregation laws, but since plessy vs ferguson had been reversed, this was illegal.
Who defended rosa parks?
ED Nixon, the president of the NAACP in Alabama. He believed that rosa parks case could be used to challenge segregation laws and eventually have them declared unconstitutional by state
How did ED Nixon try to challenge the segregation laws in buses?
The Montgomery bus boycott, Nixon sent out letters and mail to every black man and woman to not ride buses. This would impact the bus company revenue.
What happened to kings house on January 30th?
His house was bombed by the KKK, but all the kings were fine. Martins dad told MLK jr to head back home to Atlanta, but Martin had a job to do.
What did many blacks do to support king and show they were all in it together?
They turned themselves into the jail, and were proud to be jailed for their freedom. King had to pay a 500$ fine and go to jail for breaking antiboycott law.
What did the state of Alabama threaten to do to the MIA?
They threatened to take it down and fine them 15,000$ for being a private organization.
What did the us Supreme Court do that surprised everyone?
They declared segregation in buses unconstitutional and overruled Alabamas statement on that buses must remain segregated.
What did white segregationist groups do in response to the supreme court’s judging?
They bombed 5 negro churches as well as King’s church.
What did king get elected to be on?
He got elected to be on Time magazine cover.
What did king and other black ministers form together?
The SCLC, the southern Christian leadership conference, and king served as a chairman.
