MLK went to Morehouse College in Atlanta, and he was only 15, and he was the third member of his family to go there
What did Morehouse allow Martin to do? How did this change his perspective?
Morehouse gave King a sense of freedom, as he could be on the racial justice council on the intercollegiate council. His long time anger towards whites dissolved as he learned many whites wanted equality as well.
How did Benjamin mays help king to become a preacher?
He was the president of Morehouse, and was one of the influences that king judged his decision on becoming a preacher.
What did new president, Harry Truman, do that made many blacks have hope for the future?
He went to the NAACP convention and spoke. This started what is known as the civil rights movement.
Where did king go after Morehouse?
He went to Crozer at 19 yrs old. He felt additional education was necessary to succeed in the ministry and attend a white school to prove he was as good as everyone.
Who did King discover in his studies at Crozer?
Mohandas Gandhi, a nonviolence resistance philosopher who was successful to change in India.
How did gandhis teachings influence king to do the same philosophies?
He succeeded in his nonviolent protests, and believed violence would just make the enemy more angry and more violent. Using gandhis methods, king could take “love your enemy” message of Jesus to a whole new level.
Where did Martin head to after Crozer?
MLK went to the university of Boston, and wanted to pursue a doctoral degree. Boston didn’t have Jim Crow laws, and he found Coretta Scott.
Who was coretta Scott? What personalities did she have that MLK valued a lot?
Corretta Scott was Martin Luther King’s wife, and she had beauty, integrity, and intelligence, 3 things MLK valued in a woman
