Why is the concept of loss an important component of the counselling process?
Because unresolved loss is a primary root of problems frequently in counselling. It is important to have an understanding of the broad range of losses which we experience.
Lost the seven primary painful emotions typically experienced during grief.
Fear, Anger, Guilt, Sadness, Empitness, low Self-Worth, Despair
Choose two types of mechanisms that might be used to block one or more of the seven primary emotions.
Fear- Over-Talking and Intellectualizing
Anger- Projection and Rationalizing
Guilt- Rationalizing and Over-Talking
Sadness- Vagueness and Somatic Complaints
Emptiness- Red Herrings and Intellectualizing
Low Self Worth- Somatic Complaints and Over Talking
Despair- Intellectualizing and Rationalizing
List alternate word for each of the seven primary emotions.
Fear- Tense Anger- Frustrated Guilt-Ashamed Emptiness- Lonely Low Self Worth- Rejected Sadness- Depressed Despair- Hopeless
What are the three goals of grief counselling?
Work from the present experience back to the original loss or conflict (working through painful emotions), then bring the client back to the the present again.
Choose three emotions and write one statement for each emotion.
