Q

What is balance?

A

Maintaining the centre of mass over the base of support. There is static (while still) and dynamic (while moving).

Q

What is strength?

A

The ability to overcome resistance. This can be static, dynamic or explosive and maximal:
Maximal strength - Largest force possible in a single maximum contraction.
Explosive strength - strength * speed
Static strength- Hold a body part in a static position
Dynamic strength - muscular endurance (be able to undergo repeated contractions avoiding fatigue).

Q

What is the Illinois agility test?

A

Tests the agility of players.
Players have to run around cones as fast as they can.
The time is measured and recorded.

Q

What is the stork balance test?

A

Tests the balance of players.
Players have to stand with one leg, the other leg against the inside of their knee and put on their tiptoes.
Time is measured and recorded on how long you can stand for.

Q

What is the multistage fitness tests?

A

Also known as the bleep test.
Test the cardiovascular endurance of players
Players have to run from cone to cone, 20 metres long and have to stay in time with the bleeps.
As the levels get higher, the bleep gets faster and faster.
Three strikes and you’re out
The level is measured and recorded.

Q

What is the wall toss test?

A

Tests the coordination of players.
A Tennis ball is thrown with one hand onto the wall and caught with the other. This is done repeatedly for 30 seconds. It is done as fast as possible.
Amount of times will be measured and recorded.

17
Q

What is the sit and reach test?

A

Tests the flexibility of players.
The individual sits with legs flat against the reach board. The player stretches their hands and pushes the slider as far as possible.
Length is measured and recorded.

18
Q

What is the sit-up bleep test?

A

Tests the muscular endurance of players
The individual sits up and down on the bleeps. The bleeps get faster and faster as the levels increase.
The score is measured and recorded after the participant can not do anymore.

19
Q

What is the vertical jump test?

A

Tests the power/explosive strength of the player.
Player stretches their hand out with feet flat to mark the zero point.
The individual then jumps as high as they can and marks the point on the wall.
This is measured form the zero point and is recorded.

20
Q

What is the ruler drop test?

A

Tests the reaction time of the player
A thirty cm ruler is placed above the player’s hand at 0 cm. It would then be dropped and the person has to catch it as quickly as they can.
Wherever it is caught, it is measured and then recorded.

21
Q

What is the one rep max test?

A

Tests the maximal strength of the player
Either bench press or weighted squats.
The amount of weight gradually increases until the participant can not do it.
The weight is then divided by the participants’ mass and then recorded.

22
Q

What is the handgrip dynamometer test?

A

Tests the strength of the player.
The dynamometer is held at 90 degrees and gripped as hard as possible
The score is measured and then recorded.

23
Q

What is the speed test?

A

Tests the speed of the player
Individual runs 30 metres with a flying start
Time is measured and recorded.

24
Q

What are the limitations of fitness testing?

A

. Tests are often not sport-specific and can be too general
. They do not replicate the movements of activities
. Do not replicate competitive conditions in sport
. Have questionable reliability
. Must be carried out with correct procedures and protocols
