What is leadership?
Guidance given by those position of authority. Authority is the official power a leader has.
What is the leadership structure of the Catholic Church?
Pope 🔻 Cardinals 🔻 Archbishops 🔻 Priests 🔻 Laypeople
Who is the Pope?
The current Pope is Pope Francis. He lives in the Vatican in Rome. Catholics believe he is the successor of St Peter on earth. When a Pope dies, he is succeeded by Neil the Cardinals.
Who are the cardinals?
Given position by Pope. Chief advisers to the Pope. Part of their roles is to elect a new Pope if needed.
Who are the archbishops?
Head of a large area of churches. Leader of all bishops in area.
Who are the bishops?
The religious leader of a diocese. They confer the sacrament of confirmation and they discuss important matters with other bishops.
Who are the priests?
Religious leader of a parish. Celebrates baptism, Eucharist, last rites, marriage, and reconciliation.
Who are the laypeople?
Laypeople are ordained to the priesthood or religious life. Baptised members of Catholic Church. Reads mass, gives out Eucharist, helps in parish.
