About 1,100 in Ireland.
How many areas are the local conferences separated into?
100 areas which are divided into 13 regions. Each area has a president.
Why do people join SVP?
They want to spread the message of Jesus Christ. They do this by loving and serving those who are disadvantaged or struggling to cope. Their vision is to look after the weakest of society and love them and God as they love themselves.
When and by whom was SVP set up?
By French student Frédéric Ozanam and a few friends in 1883. As a Christian, he decided he must do something about poverty and injustice in France.
What is the society committed to?
Respecting the dignity of all people. The volunteers give up a certain amount of time and help out wherever they can. They also make a small donation at each meeting (every 6 months) to help with the cost of the charity.
