The techniques a writer uses to create, reveal, or develop the character in a narrative
CHARACTERIZATION
An aspect of characterization through which the author overtly relates either physical or mental traits of a character
CHARACTER DESCRIPTION
The process by which a character is introduced, advanced, and possibly transform in a story
CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT
What a character in a narrative wants; the reason the author provides for a character’s actions; either explicit or implicit
MOTIVATION
Describes a character with only one outstanding trait; rarely central characters in a narrative and stay the same throughout the story
FLAT/STATIC CHARACTERS
Describes a complex character who is presented in depth in the narrative; change significantly during the course of a narrative/full personalities are revealed throughout the story
ROUND/DYNAMIC CHARACTER
A common or stereotypical character
STOCK CHARACTER
The central character in the narrative; the term often implies positive attributes
HERO
Protagonist who is lacking one or more of the stereotypical qualities of a “hero”
ANTIHERO
