Chapter 3: Biology Flashcards
What are specialised cells?
Cells that have a particular structure so they can carry out a specific function.
Name all 7 specialised cells
Sperm cell Egg cell (ovum) Palisade cell Ciliates cell Root hair cell Nerve cell Red blood cell
What does a palisade cell do?
Help photosynthesise
What is in plant cell but not animal cells?
Chloroplast
Amyloplast
What does chloroplast do?
Make the plant green
What are tissues?
A collective name for cells that carry out similar specifications
What does epithelial tissue do?
Line blood vessels, organs and cavities
What are the 4 types of muscle tissue?
Skeletal
Involuntary
Cardiac
Nervous
What is chemical digestion?
The breaking down of large food molecules into smaller molecules by enzymes
Name 2 examples of chemical and mechanical digestion
Mechanical= chewing and bile breaking down fats Chemical= saliva breaking down starch and gastric juices in stomach breaking down food molecules
What does plasma do?
Maintain blood pressure aswell as carry all cells through blood
What do platelets do?
Prevent bleeding
Which side of the heart has deoxygenated blood come into it?
Right from the inferior and superior vena cava
Where does oxygenated blood go after the left ventricle?
Up the aortic valve and into the the aorta and out to the body
Where does the Air come into for gas exchange?
Blood capillary and alveoli
