Chapter 3 Flashcards
Sensation
The process by which sensory organs in the eyes, ears, nose, mouth, and skin receive and detect stimuli
Perception
The organization and interpretation of sensory stimuli by the brain
Transduction
The process of converting physical energy or stimulus information into neural impulses
Absolute threshold
The minimum amount of physical energy needed for a person to notice a stimulus 50% of the time and just noticeable difference (the smallest difference in intensity between two stimuli that a person can detect 50% of the time)
Monocular cues
Relative size, linear perspective, interposition, and texture gradient
Perceptual constancy
Shape, size, and color, and how it helps us understand the environment
